Adeline Jean

My name, Adeline Jean, a complete French name given to a woman of mainly East Indian ethnicity born in an English-speaking country, was a foreshadowing of my multifaceted life.

I am a wife, caregiver, and advocate for giving voice to persons who would otherwise be unheard or marginalized.

My diverse cultural and religious background has informed my morals and values, cultivated my theological voice, and given me the desire for service beyond religions and borders.

My life narrative reflects an embodiment of cultural, social, and religious ingredients. I was born in the former Spanish, Dutch, French, and British colony of Trinidad and Tobago in the Southern Caribbean. I have lived on two continents and in three American states. I am multi-racial, having ancestors from India, South America, Africa, and Spain. I was raised in a Muslim, Hindu, Anglican, and Catholic household, and I freely participated in the religious practices of these religions. All of these exclusive influences have shaped my core values and generated a love of and appreciation for diversity and unity across life contexts.

I am a Catholic Charismatic who has been actively involved in the Catholic Charismatic Renewal in varying capacities for over twenty-five years. I have been mainly involved in leading a charismatic prayer group, organizing healing events, and facilitating Life in the Spirit seminars.

I have also shared weekly podcasts providing theological reflections on the Sunday Mass readings. Through the platform of a global Catholic charismatic evangelization ministry, I have participated in television prayer initiatives, coordinated and hosted in-person and virtual retreats nationally and internationally, and organized volunteers for various charismatic events. Through the same evangelization ministry, I presently organize, host, and share scripture-based reflections for a weekly virtual international intercessory prayer meeting and organize and host a monthly virtual charismatic prayer meeting.

I have worked in South Florida as a college and university adjunct professor of English for eleven years and of Religion for three years. I am a published author of the book, JESUS Speaks to Me: Whispers of Mercy, Whispers of Love, a compilation of memoirs—a distinctive genre of ordinary theology. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication, a Master’s Degree in English Education, and a Ph.D. in Practical Theology. My dissertation is entitled, “Best Practices of the Holy Spirit as Formator? Trinidad Catholic Charismatic Covenant Communities: Fertile Ground for the Working of the Spirit as Catechist.

”Currently, I am a council member with the National Service Committee of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal in the U.S. (Pentecost Today USA).
