I was born in Trinidad and Tobago where I attended Catholic primary and secondary schools, graduating from St. Mary’s College, Port-of-Spain in 1977. I have been married to my wife, Eva, for 42 years, since 1983. We have two children, Marc and Andrea, and three granddaughters. In 1989 we migrated to the United States and settled in Pembroke Pines, Florida. I am an accountant by profession and have worked in both large and small companies in a number of
senior positions.
I was ordained a permanent deacon in the Archdiocese of Miami in December 2008 and is currently assigned to St. Bartholomew Parish (St. Bart’s) in Miramar, Florida.
In addition to the liturgical and sacramental roles at weekly masses, baptisms, weddings and funerals, I currently conduct my parish’s Scripture courses. I am a conference speaker and the featured speaker at assorted events at several parishes, including retreats, Life in the Spirit seminars, parish missions, and the like. I am also a blogger on my website, Deacon Michel’s Place, Deaconmichel.com.
Whether it’s family and friends, work, ministry, or recreation, one word sums up my interests: PASSION. I can honestly say that I seem unable to have just a “casual” interest in anything. It always develops into a PASSION and turns me into an avid (maybe rabid) collector, reader, researcher, and student. Of course, that means I’m passionate about Christ and his Church!
I received the Baptism in the Holy Spirit in July 1984 and have served in the Catholic Charismatic Renewal ever since. This new “life in the Spirit” fostered a deep desire for Christ and his Church. My motto is “Duc in altum” (Put out into the deep).
